1956, April 17

Secretary of Agriculture establishes National Inventory of Soil and Water Conservation Needs -- inventory for each county completed in 1961.

1956, August 7

Great Plains Conservation Program is authorized involving the western 62 counties in Kansas.

  

1957, December 31

First Great Plains contract is signed in Finney County.
