2002 Kansas Report
Technology
The 2002 Farm Bill increases the need for easy access to the
NRCS technical materials, not only by NRCS employees, but also by outside
technical service providers and the general public. To assist with this need, a
national web-based electronic tool for delivery of technical support was
developed. This initiative provides a framework to efficiently organize the
technical content of all 50 states.
Since June 2002, NRCS has been updating selected portions of the Field
Office Technical Guide (FOTG) and building the electronic component. As of
August 26, 2002, the Kansas eFOTG has been available for access at www.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/efotg.
Private Grazing Lands
The Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition (KGLC) strives to provide
educational opportunities for grassland managers and support for one-on-one
technical assistance. KGLC, using Environmental Quality Incentives Program
educational assistance funds, provided grants for 16 group applications and
scholarships to 11 individuals for continuing education. These grants provided
funding for 15 speakers on a variety of grazing lands topics at "coffee
shop gatherings" in 13 locations around the state.
