Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP)
WRP provides an opportunity for landowners to receive financial
incentives to enhance wetlands in exchange for retiring marginal land from
agriculture.
Kansas obligated all of the available WRP funds for projects.
Allocations were as follows:$956,000 for eight permanent easements and $96,000
for one 30-year easement. The contracts approved retired approximately 830
acres of cropland. Most of the WRP easements in the state are permanent easements
with about a fourth 30-year easements. The current backlog of unfunded offers
is $2 million for approximately 2,000 acres.
