Conserving the Green—Energy Conference

"Concerned about energy and who isn't these days," said Colleen Anderson, president of the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development Council, Emporia.

Then the "Conserving the Green—Energy Conference" sponsored by the Flint Hills RC&D Council, on August 5 and 6, 2008, at the Courtyard Marriott, Junction City, may provide the information you are seeking.

"Both days of the energy conference will be filled with great speakers that are leaders in their respective fields," said Anderson. "To be able to listen and learn from these folks is an opportunity I hope many will take."

Day one of the conference, Tuesday, August 5, is geared for the individuals/consumers, small business owners (manufacturing, shops, etc.), farmers/ranchers, engineers, and architects. Those attending will learn what can be done in homes, on farms, and for place of business to conserve and supplement energy needs.

Speaker topics include state of energy; electricity generation, transmission, and usage; biofuel; consumer energy efficiency; construction and remodeling; and energy audits.

Day two, Wednesday, August 6, the conference speakers will address needs of elected officials and appropriate staff members from rural units of government (city officials, county officials, school districts, and universities). Here's a chance to learn about options and/or policies needed to improve energy efficiency in public facilities, opportunities for energy generation at the local level, funding options, and how Greensburg is "Greening."

Speaker topics include energy policy and procedures; community wind; personal wind generation; funding options; and the Greening of Greensburg.
