Kansas Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
Technical Guidance Number 45

September 3, 2003

Subject: Managed Haying and Grazing of CRP Acreage

Managed Haying and Grazing provisions are contained in Farm Service Agency (FSA) 2-CRP (Rev. 4) Amendment 1, Part 13, Pages 13-1 through 13-10. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) or the Technical Service Provider (TSP) will review these provisions prior to providing producers with modified conservation plans.

The producer shall file a request with the FSA county office before haying or grazing begins. The NRCS or the TSP will receive an aerial photocopy from FSA identifying the acreage to be hayed or grazed. The NRCS or the TSP will modify the Conservation Plan of Operations to include the haying or grazing requirements and provide the producer a forage management plan (see attachment). The haying or grazing plan must be site-specific and must consider the wildlife needs and concerns of the acreage.
