Upper Little Blue WatershedWatershed DescriptionThe Upper Little Blue is located in southcentral Nebraska and northcentral Kansas. The Upper Little Blue covers the counties of Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Franklin, Jefferson, Kearney, Nuckolls, Thayer, and Webster in Nebraska and Republic in Kansas. Land uses in this watershed consist of irrigated cropland, dryland cropland, and pastureland. The Upper Little Blue Watershed area is within the Central Loess Plains which has a topography of nearly level land that gently slopes to the southeast. Steeper slopes exist along drainage areas, especially in the upland portions of the watershed. Soils within this watershed consist mainly of loess and water deposited material. Loess covers nearly all of the uplands, including the side slopes of upland drainage ways. Soils in the upland areas are moderately well-drained to well-drained soils. Depressions and river valleys contain clayey to gravelly, water-deposited soils. Soil in these areas are somewhat poorly drained. Watershed StatisticsThe total surface area of this watershed is 1,406,873 acres. Approximately 1,400,992 acres are in Nebraska and 5,881 acres in Kansas. Of the 5,881 acres, cropland covers about 4,638 acres, and grassland covers about 1,230 acres.
